About This Site

I've planned on launching this site for years. We were living in China (An American family of 6) and I was honestly struggling. We was reading The Book of Mormon (yes, we're Mormon or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Anyway, I was having a very hard go of it. Maybe sometime I'll go into it more but I'll save that for a another time.
So... I was reading in a later part of the Book of Mormon, while struggling with life on the other side of the world to what we would call home. The book is based on a group of people that cross the ocean from Israel to the American continent. At his point society has degraded into a couple of groups called the Nephites and Lamanites that are vying for power. There is perpetual war.
A righteous Nephite general is writing to the king of the Nephites and he is pissed, to put it lightly. This is because his army and those of his fellow generals had not received any support in either men or supplies from the capitol. In Alma chapter 60 verse 24 he writes:
And now, except ye do repent of that which ye have done, and begin to be up and doing, and send forth food and men unto us, and also unto Helaman, that he may support those parts of our country which he has regained, and that we may also recover the remainder of our possessions in these parts, behold it will be expedient that we contend no more with the Lamanites until we have first cleansed our inward vessel, yea, even the great head of our government.
If you read the scriptures or just appreciate good literature then I'm sure you've had moments where a scripture or phrase touches your heart. For whatever reason those 6 words struck a deep place in my heart. I was depressed, sleeping too much, too lost in my own thoughts and self pity. I realized I needed to be up and doing.
It was a call to take positive action in my life. It's something I'm still working on every day.
Carpe Diem!
