Enough

In general, once (or a few times 😉), per day I will open up ESPN's website to check sports scores or perhaps read one of their in depth articles on an athlete. So it was that I read Ryan McGee's College Football's bottom 10 article (since edited) yesterday. I was not surprised that he placed BYU in his 5 slot, which always features a good team that had a bad loss. I was very taken aback by the language he chose to use in the listing.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I can say that I was personally offended. As a member, I get that we're easily attacked and made fun of. It has always been this way since the church was founded.

Perhaps it's the fact that we're simply too nice as a people. I have brushed off being mocked (even physically threatened as a missionary), watched despicable Monty Python skits (that were so over the top at least it was a little funny). Heck, there is even a broadway musical that's entire theme is a mockery of our religion.

Though all of that I have shrugged it off, because, let's face it, we are a peculiar people. But for me this was the proverbial hair that broke the camel's back. I'm taking a stand on this one. I don't know why this felt different, it just did. I am done with letting the mockery of my religion slide.

Especially from a publication that has an entire section celebrating those who happened to be born with more of a dark melanin in their skin. Can't we just celebrate them for being the great athletes that they are? Isn't that the point of sports?

I was glad to find I wasn't the only one that felt this way. Loved Drake's take on this.

So, starting today, I have decided to give zero attention or money to ESPN. I will go elsewhere for my sports articles and news. No ESPN radio. No Disney anything, if I can help it. I think it was Matt Walsh who said something like "don't give money to people that hate you", so, that is exactly what I am going to do.

I know that this won't matter to ESPN. I don't care. It matters to me.

PS. Those fake Stephen A. hot takes were getting old anyway.
