Your TV is Watching
In Orwell's famous book "1984" there is a screen that is essentially watching everything you are doing all the time to report back to an Orwellian overlord about your activities. While he definitely got the year wrong, he didn't seem to miss the overall status of the current state of the privacy world by very much.
I don't mean that your TV is watching you, although some might be if they have access to a camera. No, your TV is watching whatever you are watching. No really, check this out.
The fun part is the worst offending TV's are actually listening to you all the time too. If you have a modern LG or Samsung in your living room then this is likely the case. Mine happens to be a Samsung currently. This will just add to the frustration of it asking for an update or to agree to some vague new terms (probably asking if it's cool with me if they record everything we do) every time I turn the stupid thing on.
It's easy to just throw up our hands and exclaim that the privacy war has been lost. I've lived in China. It only gets worse from here if we don't demand it stop while we still can (without being jailed or worse). Fight for your privacy any way you can. And maybe add an older TV to your collection along with the old car in your garage.
Also, now you can just connect Claude or your AI of preference to your TV and see what it can do to help protect your privacy? I might try that. I'll report back on what I do and don't find.
